What an interesting year so far! In a word…unpredictable. Usually, I am pretty good with far sighted vision. This year, I have been constantly surprised. How about you? "Smooth sailing" or "rocky road?" It’s during times when you are truly challenged that you find out what you’re really made of... steel or oatmeal. :)
Years ago, I read an amazing article titled, "It’s not working brother John." The article was written by a parishioner, to his pastor…explaining how his life had not improved, even though he applied the biblical teachings the pastor taught every Sunday. Another terminology for this would be…a faith crisis.
Let me explain. Often what is the real culprit is our perception of what is happening. Face it, there is little question that biblical principles work. They have withstood the test of time. Sometimes, God challenges our faith to reveal what we truly believe!
One of the most telling stories in the Bible is when a great storm arose on the, “Sea of Galilee,” when Jesus, and His disciples were in a boat fishing. The text states that out of nowhere, a great storm arose, the ship was tossed about like a cork, the disciples were bailing water, afraid for their lives. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep!!!!
Same circumstance, but two totally different responses to the storm... fear and faith. The disciples woke Jesus. He stood up and spoke to the storm, saying, "Peace, be still." The storm stopped and Jesus said, "Are you still afraid? Where is your faith?"
Jesus could see the disciples fear, and fear is the antithesis of faith. Either you are faithful and fearless, or you are fearful and faithless…those are the only two possibilities available!
When does 2 and 2 not add up to 4? One thing I have learned (the hard way) is that when things don’t go the way you planned, there is a priceless lesson forthcoming! God’s delays are not denials or judgments. In fact, often the very thing we desire at the wrong time could destroy us!
Have you ever noticed how many people who win the lottery, lose everything, get divorced, etc.??? Why? Because they did not yet possess the character necessary to handle instant wealth. Would you give an alcoholic a bottle of whiskey? Not if you loved that person and cared for their well being.
As I mentioned earlier, this year (for me) thus far has been a year when 2 + 2 doesn’t add up to 4. I told you earlier this year that I would be recording the new “Wholetones Christmas: Volume 2,” in April and had to cancel due to circumstances beyond my control. The American economy is extremely bullish now. Unemployment is at a 50 year low. Yet many online businesses have had a very slow first quarter.
So, will business pick up? Yes, right when it needs to. Will I record "Wholetones Christmas: Volume 2"? Yes, as soon as I am supposed to. Will 2 + 2 add up to 4 again? Yes, it surely will, right when it needs to!
So friends, one of two things is inevitable...
1: You are running your life
2: You gave your life to God... and He is running it.
I highly recommend the second one! Humans are virtually incapable of successfully running their own lives. Unfortunately, some people never realize it until it’s too late. As far as I am concerned, I am continuously endeavoring to stay out of God’s way and let Him drive! Believe me, it’s soooo much easier.
By the way, if you don’t have my latest energizing project, "ACTIV," you have no idea what you are missing!!! You can learn more about it here.
Praying that everything, "adds up" for you soon!
