Summer Salutations, Wholetonians!
The heat is on! Long gone are those winter coats and long underwear and it's time for tank tops and speedos … (ok, only if you are from Europe :) Summer is here, and all the international travelers are heading to the beach to get sunburned!
In Florida (my home), summer is full of seeing tourists in teeny weenie bikinis, people in rental cars who are used to driving on the left, and our glorious beaches packed with visitors who get to experience the paradise we enjoy 24/7 in the “Sunshine State.” Floridians are very thankful for our seasonal tourists as they really boost the state economy. There are those, however, who truly push the parameters of fashion sense and decorum when it comes to beach attire. Occasionally, you will hear a local exclaim, “What were they thinking?” That, dear friends, brings us to this week’s musing, “As A Man Thinketh.”
As I am sure you know by now, thoughts are frequencies! When our thoughts become settled beliefs, they begin to frame our lives. That is why it is imperative that we choose our thoughts (and our words) wisely. If our words create life (or death) and our thoughts can become beliefs that alter our lives, can you see how vitally important they are?
Have you noticed that when you surround yourselves with people who are always positive, then you tend to be positive? Likewise, if you hang around negative types, chances are you will find yourself becoming negative. Proverbs 23:7a, pretty much sums it up. Proverbs 23:7a, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” You see, we are responsible for the success or failure of our lives; so change your mind, change your life! Moreover, your life is triune—body, soul, and spirit. You determine the outcome.
Years ago, when I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, my pastor said something that I have never forgotten. He said, “Whatever you think about the most, that’s your God.” Of course, everyone has experienced seasons in life where they get stuck, obsessed with the difficulties of life. However, if you continue to entertain negative thoughts, it will be nigh unto impossible to make positive changes in your situation.
So, if what you think about the most is your “God,” maybe it’s time to actually think about God! The psalmist David found himself in many impossible situations … literally life and death scenarios. His remedy? David always remembered God, and realized that, ultimately, God alone is where his help came from.
What do you think about the most? Are your thoughts worthy of you? When was the last time you poured your heart out to God? When you feel like you have no one to talk to and nowhere to turn, give God a try; He’s a really good listener!
When things begin to improve and your life feels worth living again, pause and recall your overarching thoughts. Chances are, they were quite positive. Because, as a man (or woman) thinketh, so they are! I am believing your breakthrough is just a thought away.
