Hope this week’s note finds you healthier, happier, and encouraged. It’s funny how with all of the negative news permeating the air, I remain optimistic—and it’s all because of you! You see, whenever it looks like I’m going to have a discouraging day, without fail, I see a Facebook comment or email from one of you that reminds me how positively Wholetones is affecting humanity. So, in essence, you are helping me change the world, one life (including mine) at a time! Thank you!
This week’s musing is titled “Good Vibrations” for good reason. I have recently disassociated myself from the news media as much as possible. I wish I had the wherewithal to start my own channel, GNN, the Good News Network! Although I am an outspoken type who rarely shies away from confrontation, the constant barrage of chaos currently being shared on social media and television has become stifling to me. My mission in life is to instill peace and healing, not point and counterpoint. There is a word, versus, that is appropriately used in sporting events, courtrooms and politics. Here is a simple definition: against, as opposed to; in contrast to. This word is diametrically opposed to the word, for, which means: in support of, on behalf of, or to the benefit of. Alexandre Dumas once coined the phrase, “All for ONE, and ONE for all.” This phrase has always resonated with me. If your marriage is an exercise in versus, it will have a relatively short shelf life. The same holds true in business, politics, and friendship–-if you are not for the other party, you are most definitely against them!
If we are concerned with frequency or vibration, the ultimate good vibration is love. There is absolutely no mistaking love when it finds you. Infatuation and brotherly care often require a return on investment, yet pure love is incapable of such a demand. Pure love is always for you, NEVER against (versus) you. At the end of 1 Corinthians 12, there is an unnumbered statement after verse 31:
“Love Is Indispensable
And yet I will show you the most excellent way.”
When I read an excellent book, (and I read a lot!) and there is a statement that sets up the next chapter, I cannot wait to turn the page! The previous statement is intriguing, so let’s move on to the next chapter, 1 Corinthians 13: (Love Is the Greatest)
“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing."
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”
One of my favorite musicals is Les Miserables, based on the book by Victor Hugo. In it, Jean Valjean sings this extraordinary line, “To love another person is to see the face of God.” When we love each other, God is present in our midst. Now that is a good, good, good, God vibration!
